Youtube Premium Still Has Ads 2020

4 Ways to Fix Seeing Ads on YouTube Premium

If you have YouTube Premium, you shouldn't see ads on YouTube. However, sometimes a glitch can cause ads to appear. Here's how to fix that.

YouTube Premium promises an ad-free experience and, for the most part, it delivers. However, some users have complained that there is a bug which causes ads to display on Premium accounts.

While YouTube has said it has fixed these issues, some Premium users continue to see ads. So, what you can do if you see ads on your YouTube Premium account? Here are all the fixes to try.

1. Check YouTube Premium Availability in Your Location

Even if you have a YouTube Premium subscription, it won't work in locations where it isn't available yet—those are listed on YouTube Help.

When you leave the supported region, you'll lose access to Premium features such as video downloads and background play. You'll also see ads.

While the YouTube Original movies and series will be available, background play and download features for these contents are usually turned off. That said, you can still bypass region restrictions through a VPN.

Expired membership is another reason why you may see ads in YouTube videos. You can check your Premium membership status in the YouTube app. To do this, tap on your profile picture, and select Paid membership. Then, scroll down to Manage and check if the membership is still valid.

2. Unblock YouTube Cookies

If ads appear when watching an embedded YouTube video on a third-party website, make sure YouTube cookies aren't blocked. Browser cookies save user information to remember your site preference and provide relevant content.

Here's how to unblock YouTube cookies on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

To unblock YouTube cookies on Chrome:

  1. Launch Google Chrome.
  2. Click Menu (three dots) and select Settings.
  3. In the left pane, click the Privacy and Security tab.
  4. Click Cookies and other site data.
  5. Scroll down to the Sites that can always use cookies section.
  6. Click the Add button.
  7. To create an exception for YouTube, add the following in the Site field: [*.]youtube.com
  8. Click the Add button to save the changes. Relaunch the browser.

To unblock YouTube cookies on Firefox:

  1. Launch Firefox and click the Applications Menu (hamburger icon).
  2. Click Settings.
  3. From the left pane, click Privacy and Security.
  4. Scroll down to the Cookies and Site Data section and click Manage Exceptions.
  5. Type youtube.com in the Address of website field and click Allow.
  6. Once the URL is added, click Save Changes.
  7. Relaunch the browser and open YouTube. Check if the ads still appear on your Premium account.

To unblock YouTube cookies on Edge:

  1. Launch Edge and click the Menu icon.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Open the Cookies and data stored tab.
  4. Click Manage and delete cookies and site data.
  5. Scroll down to the Allow section and click the Add button.
  6. Type in youtube.com and click Add.
  7. Relaunch the browser.

3. Log Back in to Your YouTube Premium Account

If the issue persists, ensure you are signed in to the account associated with your YouTube Prime membership. When signed in, you will see the YouTube Premium logo instead of the YouTube logo on the app and website.

Additionally, sign out and sign back into the account to see if that helps. Prime membership benefits are limited to the YouTube official app, so you may see ads if you are using a third-party app to watch videos.

4. Update the YouTube App

If you see ads only on the YouTube app, check if you have the latest version installed. Open the Google Play Store or App Store. Search for the YouTube app and look for any pending updates. If available, install the update and see if the ads are gone.

Blocking Ads on YouTube Premium

While YouTube Premium is an excellent option for YouTube users to enjoy content without ads, this bug is an annoyance for many. To block ads, make sure YouTube cookies are allowed in your browser, and you are in a supported region. If nothing works, reach out to YouTube support to report the issue.
