how to draw fan art

Hi everyone!! Someone a while ago asked me to make a tutorial on how i draw but... Idk how i would teach that? :joy: :joy: I decided then i would make a tutorial on a few tips and tricks i learned in these few years i have of drawing. This is gonna be a long post!!

:heavy_multiplication_x: Please take what i say as an advice and not as rules! I'm a begginer myself and everybody learns how to 'art' in different ways... What works for me may not work for you! Thank you :heavy_multiplication_x:

YE OK LET'S GET THIS STARTED WOOO :tada: :tada: :tada:

1: PRACTICE

For realsies you guys, p r a c t i c e. I read somewhere that you can think that everyone is born with a certain amount of bad drawings in them, so it's better to get rid of those as soon as possible right?

Just so you have an idea, this was my first ever Jungkookie back in 2015, compared with my lastest (from about two weeks ago). Pretty brutal difference, right? I was pretty proud of myself when i saw it

2: TRY OUT DIFFERENT MEDIUMS

That means going from the traditional pencil & eraser to digital and from markers to colored pencils and from inks to watercolor (anything you can think of, really!)

Some examples of me trying out different mediums are:

yoongi again with regular pencils

I'm gonna put a list of my fave materials to draw below so you guys can have an idea!

To sketch i like the pentel 0.5mm mechanical pencil and hi-polymer eraser (always use that kind of eraser bc it doesn't damage the paper as much and clumps together the eraser bits!), Faber-Castell, Stabilo and Staedtler pencils (ranging from HB to 8B). I also have Faber-Castell watercolor pencils, a 12-piece set of promarkers, 24 copic markers, this tiny set of cheap pentel watercolors and brushes, and Artliner pens for inking (not on the picture). And finally i have a wacom intuos tablet for digital art!

Don't forget how important paper is! I have a bunch of regular paper sketchbooks and also a watercolor sketchbook i bound myself, and stacks of thicker and thinner paper depending of what i'm planning on drawing.

However, i know some of these are pretty expensive, so before you spend a lot of money on supplies, you should know what kind of medium interests you! Which leads us to my next point...

3: WATCH SPEEDPAINTS

But what are speedpaints? They are those videos where the artist uploads a video of the process of the drawing in full, but sped up!

There are speedpaints of pretty much anything, and you can learn a lot by watching how people do stuff! Istg i've watched a TON of speedpaints of every medium i've ever dabbled in (and some i'm planning on! Ye oils i'm looking at you)

This is an inking speedpaint of the drawing i did for Hobi's birthday:

RANDOM TIPS

❣ You will have art blocks, and while they are really frustrating, don't forget your art doesn't determine your value as a person... You'll get through them and you will get better!!

❣ Don't forget art is supposed to be fun! Take regular breaks, especially if your hands or back hurt, and always have a something to drink nearby

❣ For the love of god, get different cups so you don't mix up your paint water with your drinks

❣ Fanart is all about likeliness, so study the face you wanna draw!!! What is the shape of their eyes? Do they have pronounced eyebags? How about their smile? Some artists have tutorials breaking down bts' faces, i can do one for you if you guys would like?

❣ Keep your old drawings so you can compare your progress! It's super fun and it makes you really proud to see how much you've accomplished!

❣ P r a c t i c e

Thank you for reading this monster post!!! I hope you enjoyed it and maybe learned something! :two_hearts: :two_hearts: :two_hearts: :two_hearts:
